Patchwork Bench/Fence 2023
Commissioned work for the ROKKAKU PATCH complex

Fujisaku designed and constructed a movable outdoor bench and fence for the courtyard of the Rokkaku Patch complex. This facility was renovated from a former pawnshop that served as both a store and residence. The existing building features a patchwork of various materials, including traces of piecemeal additions and renovations, as well as new metal bracing installed for seismic reinforcement.

To harmonize with this space, the bench and fence were constructed using a combination of reclaimed wood from existing furniture, scrap materials from the existing outdoor fence, construction timber, and metal components. A sliding fence was installed on the outer side of the bench's backrest. By installing the bench within the site border, it also serves as a fence, allowing facility users to slide the fence open and closed to enter and exit the premises. In the future, the courtyard is planned to be used for various events.
